Porsche Production

2022 Porsche 911 Carrera and Targa

“Porsche” is synonymous with exceptional performance and unparalleled precision—and for good reason. Over the decades, this manufacturer has produced some of the fastest and most responsive models ever made, thereby cementing their reputation as one of the all-time greats. Porsche is now an important part of the Volkswagen Group—but Porsche production is still an almost entirely in-house affair.

A name that inspires reverence is sure to inspire questions, too: Where was your Porsche made? Which models are created entirely in Germany? How many models roll off the line each year? Get the answers below, and then get behind the wheel at Rusnak/Pasadena.

Where Are Porsches Made?

All two-door Porsche sports cars and gasoline-powered Porsche engines are produced from start to finish at the brand’s headquarters in Zuffenhausen, a district in Stuttgart, Germany. With direct oversight over their most iconic vehicles, Porsche can offer Los Angeles-area drivers a truly superior product.

However, like virtually all modern companies, Porsche has diversified its operations in order to be as competitive as possible. Where are Porsches made today? It depends on the model in question:

  • Porsche 911: Entirely produced in Zuffenhausen (Stuttgart, Germany).
  • Porsche 718: Entirely produced in Zuffenhausen (Stuttgart, Germany) since 2011. Prior to Zuffenhausen’s expansion, 718 Cayman and Boxster models were made in Finland.
  • Porsche Macan: Assembled in Leipzig (Germany).
  • Porsche Cayenne: Assembled in Bratislava (Slovakia) and Kulim, Kedah (Malaysia). Past model-years have also been produced in Osnabrück and Leipzig, both in Germany.
  • Porsche Panamera: Assembled in Leipzig (Germany).
  • Porsche Taycan: Entirely produced in Zuffenhausen (Stuttgart, Germany).

How Many Porsches Are Produced Each Year?

Prior to 2011, Porsche generally produced fewer than 100,000 models per year. They did cross the 100,000-mile threshold in 2006, 2007, and 2008—but only by a small margin.

How many Porsches are produced each year now that the Zuffenhausen plant has doubled in size? The manufacturer’s numbers have really taken off over the last decade—and in 2021, they produced more than 300,000 models for the first time. Observe the trend for yourself:

Porsche Production by the Numbers: 2011–2021

  • 2011: 127,793 models
  • 2012: 151,999 models
  • 2013: 165,808 models
  • 2014: 203,097 models
  • 2015: 234,497 models
  • 2016: 237,778 models
  • 2017: 255,683 models
  • 2018: 268,451 models
  • 2019: 274,463 models
  • 2020: 263,236 models
  • 2021: 300,081 models
